Embark on the Ultimate Tassie Adventure! Hop between our 3 Tassie Getaway Parks and discover what we reckon are some of Tasmania's absolute gems. From East to West, we've handpicked locations that showcase the best of what the Apple Isle has to offer.

Tassie Road Trip, Anyone? Since acquiring Stanley Cabin Park in July '23, we've been on a mission to create the ultimate Northern Tasmania adventure.

Now, with our trio of parks - BIG4 St Helens, Ulverstone, and Stanley - your dream Tassie road trip is just a click away!

Experience the Best of Tassie:

  • Conquer The Nut in Stanley
  • Cruise the Leven River in Ulverstone
  • Mountain bike to the Bay of Fires in St Helens

...and that's just the beginning! The possibilities are endless.

Why choose one when you can experience all three? Each park offers its own unique Tassie magic.

We've started the one week journey here in Stanley but you can chose yourself what direction to travel. Many of our guests depart from the Spirit of Tasmania, or a flight in Launceston, and take the journey straight to Stanley. It's good to get the longest trip (just 3.5 hours) out of the way.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

When you arrive in Devonport via the Spirit of Tasmania, your excitement is palpable. The ferry journey itself is an adventure, offering fantastic views and the anticipation of the trip ahead. From there, take the drive to Stanley.

Stanley and The Nut

Heading northwest, your first stop is Stanley, staying at BIG4 Stanley. Check in early (subject to availability), and spend the day exploring the historic town of Stanley. Here, the challenge is to conquer The Nut. The panoramic view at the top? Worth every step! During summer months, those with dodgy knees can enjoy a cable car ride to the top of The Nut instead.

Stroll through the charming shops and cafes in the historic town, admire the grandeur of Highfield House, and snap a pic at the giant selfie frame. In the evening, savour the freshest local seafood or beef at Hursey Seafoods or The Stanley Hotel. As you head back to the park, take a magical detour for some penguin spotting at Godfreys or Tatlows Beach.

Day 2: Take a day trip the the Tarkine Wilderness

Embark on a journey through one of Tasmania's most pristine wilderness areas with the Tarkine Drive. This 205-kilometre loop offers breathtaking landscapes and unique experiences. Discover more on our website Explore Tarkine.

Here's your must-visit list for an unforgettable adventure:

  • Arthur River Start your journey here. Take a river cruise or kayak along the "Edge of the World" coastline. Don't miss: Sunset at the "Edge of the World" lookout.
  • Sumac Lookout Enjoy panoramic views of the Julius River and surrounding rainforest. Tip: Perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.
  • Julius River Forest Reserve Walk through ancient myrtle beech forests on the Julius River walk. Activity: Look for platypus in the river.
  • Lake Chisholm Forest Reserve Visit this magical flooded limestone sinkhole surrounded by lush forest. Must-do: Take the short walk to the lake's edge.

Have lunch at the Marrawah Inn, known as one of the best country pubs in Tassie.

After your big lunch, you're in for a more chilled evening starting with a glass or two at Stanley Wine Bar, followed by one of their tasting platters or pizzas.

Day 3: Drive to Ulverstone

With only an hour or so to drive today, you've got time to stop at some great local attractions. Here are a few detours to chose from, or you can do the all!

Dip Falls Walk and the Big Tree
Take the C225 from the Bass Highway, just East of Black River for 24kms. Drive 2km on a gravel road to the Dip Falls Reserve. From there, it's a 10 minute walk to the base of the falls, via steep steps. From the car park at the top of the falls, cross the bridge and walk for 5 minutes to the Big Tree – a Brown Top Stringybark eucalypt measuring 62 metres in height and 16.46 metres in girth. Call in at Blue Hills Honey nearby and taste a variety of local honeys produced by the company.

Boat Harbour Beach
You really must detour into Boat Harbour Beach; we think it's the most beautiful beach in Tassie. Start your day off with brunch at Seekers Bar and Cafe, followed by a stroll on the beach.

If you time it right, you may see tulips blooming on the Table Cape headland. The Wynyard Tulip Festival typically takes place in early October each year, coinciding with the tulips' peak blooming season. Table Cape lookout and Lighthouse are worth a visit year round.

The Vault Cafe Bar at Wynyard is worth a visit if you missed Brunch earlier.

Take the coastal route from

Take a day trip to one of the many attractions close to Ulverstone such as the iconic Cradle Mountain*, Leven River Cruise or Leven Canyon.

*If you’re taking the Rosebery route from Stanley to Strahan, you could visit Cradle Mountain on that route.

a short drive to BIG4 Ulverstone. With an early check-in option, it’s an excellent spot to take a breath, unpack, grab some supplies and truly begin our Tasmanian journey.

Ulverstone is a picturesque coastal town, renowned for its beautiful beaches, parks, and a serene estuary. With its close proximity to other Tasmanian attractions, Ulverstone makes for a great base to explore the surrounding regions while offering its own set of unique experiences for tourists.

Days 9, 10 & 11: Eastern Delights

The east coast is a visual treat! Coles Bay beckons, a trip to Tasmania would be incomplete without marvelling at the beauty of Freycinet Peninsula. Settle at BIG4 Iluka Freycinet, ensuring your proximity to nature’s wonders.

Your next stop is St Helens, with BIG4 St Helens as our base. The Bay Of Fires, with its orange-lichen-covered rocks and clear waters, is another highlight of Tasmania! Enjoy fishing, kayaking, bushwalking or mountain biking in the nearby St Helens Mountain Bike Trails.

Days 12 & 13: Launceston's Charms

Round your journey off with a few days in Launceston. Staying at BIG4 Launceston, this city is charmed with cultural activities, Cataract Gorge, and delightful day trips.

Day 7: Farewell, Tasmania!

The final leg is to head back to Devonport and hop aboard the Spirit of Tasmania to sail back to the mainland, or to Launceston for your flight.

With a night sailing, or afternoon flight you have the day to take in a few more sites on the way from St Helens back to Devonport or Launceston. No trip to Tassie is complete with a visit to Coles Bay or the Freciynet Penninsula.
